Who is Pete Comiskey?
To anyone in the Australian campdrafting industry, the name Comiskey needs no introduction. Legendary campdrafter Pete Comiskey has enjoyed numerous wins across his impressive 45 year career, earning multiple titles in all the biggest campdraft events including Paradise Lagoons and the Warwick Gold Cup. He shares his passion and wealth of experience with riders in regular campdrafting clinics, all while managing his family cattle station in Nebo, QLD. Read more…
Born into a family of passionate riders and stock handlers, Pete’s been chasing cattle since he was a child. At eight years old he followed his dad into campdrafting and has never looked back. His station upbringing kick-started the cattle knowledge which made him so successful later on, but he always maintains that it’s the rider’s relationship with the horse that is most important to campdrafting.
Today, the family cattle station in Nebo still remains his home base. They manage over 2000 cattle there, as well as breed and train horses – with up to fifty onsite at a time. They take dozens with them as they travel the countryside for sales and competition.
It is truly a family enterprise, with his partner Bryony, herself a champion campdrafter, actively involved in the horse training program. His two youngest children Leila and ‘Little’ Pete show great promise and enthusiasm in the junior events, while they still see their extended family around the circuit.
He’s won all the biggest events and holds the record for most ACA Open Rider titles. With prizes from the Warwick Gold Cup, Willinga Park, Paradise Lagoons and many more, there is no doubt that Pete knows his stuff. He shares his knowledge, passion and work ethic with riders in clinics around the country.
For over fifteen years, he’s ridden and competed in Toowoomba Saddlery saddles and has used his extensive experience to guide the development of this new range.
After fifty years, his campdraft career isn’t over yet. In 2025, the wins continued as he claimed first place in the Restricted Open at the Chinchilla Grandfather Clock Campdraft, riding the stock horse Ervines Just Jim in a prototype Signature Series Pro Drafter saddle.

Fast-paced and exhilarating, Campdrafting is an increasingly popular cow-horse sport. Once you’ve cut your chosen beast from the herd, you work it though the course and into the gate – less than a minute round the pegs but there’s so much going on in that time.
It’s a test of horsemanship and cattle sense that earns you a score out of a 100 and in the biggest competitions – hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money. This partnership combines Pete Comiskey’s unmatched expertise in campdrafting and horsemanship with Toowoomba Saddlery’s decades of experience in saddle making.
From the workbench, to the station – Quality counts. That has been Toowoomba Saddlery’s motto for over fifty years and we’ve been making our saddles locally in Australia, right here in our Toowoomba workshop for over 30 of them. Our horses are mainly Australian stock horse / quarter horse cross.
When you’re breeding those horses you just never know how they’re gonna come out.
We find the design to fit both horses with a high wither or a horse that’s pretty flat back.”
